FORUM FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Planet Jackson
Administrator
This post was updated on .
I will attempt to answer some Frequently Asked Questions about this forum.

Why can't I register under the username I have chosen?

This forum is part of a larger network.  If someone else on the network has already registered your username, you cannot use it here even if no one else on the Say Say Say forum is using it.  Please choose something similar to your liking.

Why can't I see the newest posts?

New posts are added at the end of the discussion on higher page numbers rather than posting to the top on the first page like some other sites.  At the moment, I cannot change this.  Just look for the page numbers in the lower right hand corner of your screen and click on the next highest number to continue reading.

Why am I getting an e-mail everytime someone posts a comment on a topic?

You have checked the option to receive replies via e-mail.  To disable this function, go to the my personal settings tab under your user name and uncheck that option.  You will no longer automatically receive replies to every topic.  If you wish to follow a particular topic via e-mail you may manually check the box under your comment on that topic.  The system will e-mail you when someone replies to your post.

I can't add  or change my avatar pic.

Go to your username in the upper right hand corner and click on it to reveal the drop down menu.  Click on my personal settings.  You will see a list of items.  Click on change avatar.  You can upload an image from your computer, however the image must not exceed 4MB and must be at least 100 X100 pixels.  These are very narrow parameters, so you may have to play with the image using photo editing software first before uploading it.  You will also have the option to crop the picture once you have uploaded it.

How do I add a gif to my signature?

Look in the upper right hand corner
Find your username and click on it.
You should get a drop down menu with the choice "My Personal Settings"
Click on that
That will take you to your own account page
Click on "Edit Signature"
In the box, paste the EMBED code for the gif you want.  Do NOT paste the link, url, direct link, or any other code.  It MUST be the embed code.
Click on the box in the upper left hand corner that says "Message is in HTML format"
Click on save settings
Your gif should animate immediately

How do I post a picture?

There are several ways you can post pictures here.  You can click on the "Insert Image" tab right above the message box (it has an orange rectangle beside it).  In there, you have the option to either upload a photo from your computer (click the browse button) or to hotlink to a photo you found on the web.  In that case, erase the "http://" and just paste the url of the photo you want to link to.  Make sure you have the url of the photo itself and not just the page it appears on with other text and stuff.  You have the option to name the photo, to float it around in the message box, and to resize it.

Another option would be to just write in the actual html code to link to a photo you have found.  In that case, you would have to click the "Message is in HTML format" box to the upper left of the message box.

A third option would be to just copy and paste the direct link code provided from photobucket or another photo hosting website. Photobucket provides you something like four options on what to do with a photo:  embed, direct link, etc.   I think the language Photobucket uses for the one you want to use here is "direct link".

How do I submit pictures, songs, or fan fic for consideration?

Visit the thread on here called Submission Guidelines.  In essence, you should contact us through the contact us page on the website to discuss your work and to obtain a submission guidelines packet.  Due to space and bandwidth constraints, not all submitted items can be accepted or published, but we do welcome all inquiries.

Why can't I post to the forum even though I've registered?

You must both register for the system and request membership to this specific forum.  Planet Jackson runs several forums on several sites; you must request membership to each one separately because they each have a different emphasis.  Attempt to make a post and the system will stop you and instruct you to request membership.  Send your request with an explanation of why you want to join.  Your request will be reviewed and you may post upon approval.  Trolls and haters note:  your IP address, e-mail address, and other information are collected during this process and will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities if you attempt to harass or otherwise disrupt this board.  Legitimate members note:  your personal information will never be rented, given, or sold to any entity outside of  PJWN.

Thank you, Miss Site Administrator.  You are ever so helpful, as usual.  I'm so glad to see so much activity that we have frequently asked questions.   That was fast, huh??

I was actually wondering how to remove the email thingy, cuz I had to delete a shitload this morning.  I did realize the other day that I could just uncheck the box below, and I was sure I would find it under edit, but I was too lazy to look.  So, again, I say Thank You!!

Still waiting for my title, and btw, I'm closing in on 100 posts!!

You can click  on your name and change personal settings to remove the e-mail option.  I just realized there is a glitch in the system that resets this every time you log out.  So, right now you have to do it at the start of every session.  I have contacted help support to let them know.

Well, I went to delete one post and a whole swath of them were deleted with it b/c they were all linked in the system.  I thought only one had gone bye-bye not several pages.   The helpdesk said I can restore them (I can see them, but you all can't), but when I tried to do it it didn't work.  :(
  Sorry.

You can't have an animated avatar as far as I know.  In order to have a gif in your siggy, just copy the embed code and paste it in the signature line under your settings.  Make sure to click the box to indicate it is in html.  Beware, photobucket gifs exceed bandwidth on the regular!

Hey Carmen!  I encourage you to post videos whenever and wherever you please.    I usually try to keep my videos standard sized 425 X 344 or at the most 650  X 344 otherwise they overrun the box and cover up the clickable options.  Other than that, there are no restrictions.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any other questions or still have trouble posting photos.

Hi PJ,
thankx for the very helpful details for adding a pic...I'll try my hand at it soon.  I see what you mean about the size of the videos.  I went back into the last topic I placed one (in the videos, short films etc)  and saw how the size of that one does cover up the options.  I see what your saying....♥   thankx again Planet....
I love it that we can put a video in any of our replies..... very nice.

I have had a question about getting gifs to animate.  I usually copy code from photo hosting websites like Photobucket or TinyPic.  I have never had any luck with uploading gifs I have saved to my harddrive.  They just don't move for whatever reason.  Not when I save the gif itself.  Now, if you save a Word file with the code for the gif (the code that would refer back to the hosting website) then that would work.

It's just weird, 'cause the gif I have now I saved the same way as the one I couldn't get to work... They work fine when I just view it, but not when I upload it to here... But no biggie... I'll just use the ones that work.

But thanks
