How do you post gifs?

This explanation is for Lonnie and everyone else who has had challenges with posting gifs.

Gifs are animated pictures.  Think of them as supershort video clips.  As such, they are probably most easily posted the same way you would post a video:  with HTML code.  You can find the code for gifs at most gif host sites like photobucket.  Just copy the HTML code and paste it into the body of your post.  Be sure to click  the box in the upper left hand corner that says "Message is in HTML format" just to be safe.  Your gif should animate as soon as you post your message.  You may get an error message saying "bandwidtch has been exceeded, upgrade to pro," especially if you post from photobucket.  This has nothing to do with you.  It just means that either the originally gif poster's account has exceeded its overall bandwidth or that particular gif has been viewed too much for that month.  

You can do one of three things:
1. Just choose another one
2. find the same gif in someone else's photobucket account (or create your own)
3. do nothing. the bandwidth restriction will be lifted soon enough and the gif will reanimate (mine frequently cycle through these phases)

Other ways to post gifs are to copy "direct links" from sites like photobucket that provide special links.  Just copy this link and paste it into the dialogue box you get when you click the orange "Insert Image" option at the top of your post.  If you have the correct type of link, your gif should animate.  Beware:  you usually CANNOT just copy and paste the url of the page on which you view the link. This usually does not work!  If you have gifs saved on your computer as gifs (as opposed to other photofile types), you can also upload them from your computer using the same "insert image" option.  My gifs almost always behave when I do this.

I hope you don't mind, but since I'm done with school I had some time on my hands to do a tutorial. This is for those who don't have the html code but just the direct link.


You know sometimes you come across a really cool gif, but all you have is the direct link. Well what can you do? You can register for PhotoBucket if you haven't already. After registering, follow these quick an easy steps:

Step 1: At your home page, you want to select the box that says Upload Images and Videos.




Step 2: Select the option that says Web URL. You are going to paste the direct link in the box that says "paste web URL here". Then click the upload button.



Step 3: After the upload, you will have an option to save the image and return to your album. So click on Save after the gif has finished uploading. Then go to the homepage and select the tab that says Recent Uploads. You should see your recently uploaded image.



Step 4: Click on the image you want to post. Scroll down, and you will notice a list of links to the bottom left. You want to click in the box that says HTML code. Copy that link. Once you have copied the link, return to planetjackson.net website. Paste the link in your reply box. It is not necessary to click on the insert image or insert link tab. Just paste the link in the reply box.

Preview message before posting to see if your image will appear once submitted. After that, continue posting some more yummy MJ gifs

Annie that worked out great, I have been trying so hard to figure that out but as soon as I saw this and tried it .......I jumped for joy to see my golden picture move. Amazing ladies thank you so much for making so simple  even I could figure it out.
